2008 season review: Jérôme D’Ambrosio now ready to win

Jérôme D’Ambrosio’s first GP2 season was marked by a steady progress which has now put him on the verge of triumph. The young Belgian will renew his allegiance to the series in 2009 while also attempting to secure a F1 test drive in the coming months. “GP2 is very competitive and it took me a while to settle in and achieve the physical level necessary to get the most out of the car over the course of a one hour plus race. I finally scored my first points at Magny-Cours although I should have done this at Monaco. I also finished 9th four times in Saturday’s feature race, just missing out each time on pole position for the next day. The latter part of the season was quite good though, with two podiums – Valencia and Spa – and a placing in the points in the last six races. Consistency and speed are the key to success in GP2 and progressively, by the end of the season, we got there. Next year, podium finishes and outright wins will constitute my objectives. I won’t be satisfied with anything short of that as it is the only way to really fall under the scrutiny of the F1 community.”
